Adventure of the American Mind

The objective of this assignment is to uncover connections between the literature you are reading and its historical backdrop. You will do this by choosing two primary source links from the list below, conducting research on the subjects of these sources, finding two additional and related primary sources, and then linking them all (people and/or events) by their common thread and their connection to one of the works assigned for English 322. You will present your findings to the class in a collage, power point, skit, poem, song, or any imaginative manner of your choosing, but you must adhere to the following guidelines:

At least one of the two additional primary sources you choose should be an original newspaper or journal article; the other can be a photograph, or an audio or video file. Both must come from the Library of Congress/American Memory collection. The Power Point link at the bottom of this page will further explain the objectives and activities involved in this project, but should not be used as a model for how your finished presentation should look. Remember: Use your imagination. The relationships between the events and subjects and the assigned literature are not going to be obvious -- it will take further research and creativity to bring them together. Think "The Seven Degrees of Kevin Bacon."
