This site is intended to enhance the assigned readings and classroom discussions in the survey of American Literature II course. The compilation of primary photos, news articles, and original documents from the different literary periods will serve as a mosaic of people, places and events relative to the literature we are reading. My objective for the survey course is for students to recognize and appreciate the text as an expression of its cultural, political, and historical context as we explore internal literary themes against their external, historical backdrops. I am confident that their explorations and research will take them to not only the predominant people and events of our history, but also to the lesser known characters and circumstances that contribute to our American literary backdrop.
