The Chicago Flag This website will introduce students to the history, geography, and people of the City of Chicago as represented on its municipal flag. Using the Chicago Flag as a graphic organizer, students will investigate the four historical events connected to each of the red stars. In addition, students will identify the major waterways of the city as represented by the two blue stripes. Finally, the white stripes on the Chicago Flag will familiarize students with the city's great neighborhoods. This third grade Social Studies lesson can be used as part of a unit on Illinois and/or Chicago. It may be an interactive student lesson or a teacher presentation. This lesson is part of the Adventures of the American Mind project and is funded by The Library of Congress. They permit the use of the digitized primary resources utilized in this lesson. This site is hosted by Governors State University. |
