Changing the Face of Medicine: Celebrating America's Women Physicians is a National Library of Medicine exhibit. The exhibit which was on display at the National Library of Medicine closed November 19, 2005. Two copies of the exhibit will be traveling across the country and will be on display in 61 libraries across the United States between August 2005 and November 2010. The Governors State University Library is very pleased to be hosting the exhibit April 25 through June 8, 2007. As the exhibit gets closer, consult the libraries exhibit page for scheduled activities and events. If you are interested in visiting the exhibit and do not live near Governors State University, check the itinerary to find a location near you. The exhibit features women in medicine. It honors their lives and achievements. Some women physicians have the field of surgery by developing innovative procedures, while others have won the Nobel prize. Some women physicians have focused their attention on the health and well-being of children. Others have concentrated on the art of healing and the roles of culture and spirituality in medicine. This site will help you, the student, discover the many ways in which women have influenced the practice of medicine. This is a work in progress and is not complete. Please check back again in the near future. Click here for a PowerPoint overview of this project
