Students work independently in a computer lab setting.

The student will apply appropriate measures to graphics.
The student will insert and format Word Art and regular text.
The student will insert and format a graphic image.
Materials
Computer, Printer, MS Word, Internet access
Journal Cover Scoring Rubric (PDF format)
Journal Cover Directions (PDF format)
Procedure

1) Tell students they will now create the cover for their Freedom Journal.
2) Direct students to the Student Page of the website.
3) Direct students to Lesson 2.
4) Tell students to click theTask 1 link to view the scoring rubric for the journal cover.
5) Direct students to the theTask 2 link for directions. Students who are proficient in MS Windows may keep the PDF directions open as they design their journal cover.  Other students may need a printed copy.
6) Students create their Freedom Journal covers in MS Word.

Assessment
Teacher observation during cover design.
Teacher evaluation of the student's journal cover using the Journal Cover Scoring Rubric.
