Welcome to The Great Migration Lessons

The Great Migration of African-Americans began after the Civil War. Historians disagree on how long it lasted. My goal is for the student to understand the conditions that led to the Great Migration. I also hope the student gains awareness of the issues and struggles African-Americans lived with after their freedom was "won" in the war. These lessons, then, do not focus on dates and events. The actual length of the Great Migration is not an important consideration.  In general, we will look at a period of 80 to 100 years, beginning with the end of the war in 1865.
