Adventure of the American Mind

Book Cover for Farwell to ManzanarFarewell to Manzanar, written by Jeanne Wakatsuki Houston and James D. Houston, tells the true story of a young Japanese-American girl whose family was forced into an internment camp during World War II. The main intent of this website is to teach students about the degradation that Japanese-Americans faced during World War II by putting the events into a personal light. In this website, students will participate in reading the memoir of Jeanne Watsuki Houston while completing a number of projects related to the reading process. Ansel Adams, Born Free and Equal will be the main primary source utilized in this website to allow students a visual window into the interment camps of the 1940's.
