Significant People in Illinois History
Teacher Page

This is a two to three week lesson for third grade students, that uses primary sources from the Library of Congress, to investigate significant people in Illinois history.
The students will begin this lesson by viewing the PowerPoint "Significant People in Illinois History." They will then print out a copy of the data record sheet for each member of the team. They will revisit the PowerPoint taking notes so that they can decide why I have included these people in the lesson. Each student will write a paragraph discussing his/her findings. The students will then research another significant person of Illinois and write an expository essay , prepare a PowerPoint or Inspiration presentation about this person. They will then present their research to the class.

I have attached a PDF file that indicates which Illinois State Goals are addressed in this project. Use the link below to access these goals.
I have, also, attached a PDF file that lists the NET goals addressed in this project.

This is an Adventures of the American Mind project, and its primary purpose is to encourage teachers to broaden the possibilities for student learning by using primary sources from the Library of Congress in their lessons. This project was made possible by The Library of Congress; Illinois Senator Richard Durbin; Dr. Sandi Estep and Professor Luci Sweder, of Governor's State University.
